Action for Development and Environment Foundation

Working for biodiversity, climate action, and sustainable livelihoods in Cameroon.

Bakossi National Park

Where most of our activities were carried out in 2024, Bakossi National Park holds a high floral and faunal biodiversity, with a high level of endemism. It is a unique hotspot for primate species, including the Drill, Chimpanzee, Preuss’s red colobus, Red-eared guenon, and many more.

Despite this rich endowment, the park’s biodiversity is threatened by unsustainable use of forest resources, poaching, and deforestation due to small-scale agriculture. Local populations rely on the forest for food, medicine, and income.

Conservation Efforts

Current efforts include the Programme for the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources in the South West Region (PSMNR-SWR), Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), and several local civil society organizations.

ADEF’s Contribution

  • Sensitization & Education: Raising awareness about biodiversity and sustainable resource management.
  • Climate Change Mitigation: Implementing local actions to reduce environmental impact.
  • Livelihood Diversification: Developing value chains to add economic value to local produce, reducing forest destruction.

ADEF aims to complement existing conservation efforts while empowering local communities for long-term sustainability.

Fundraising in Action

ADEF established a cocoa nursery in Mekom to produce improved cocoa seedlings. A total of 10,000 seedlings were produced, out of which 8,500 were sold at 200 CFA each, generating 1,700,000 CFA to support the organization’s activities.
